Um, typically what happened with coal mine disasters, uh, especially up here in Pennsylvania, was that, you know, it was too expensive and too dangerous to go back down into the mine shaft and, uh, try to extricate the, the tr- the miners.

So typically what they would do is they would go and just write them off as dead.

They would go and bulldoze the place, maybe put a, a pad of, uh, cement there, concrete, and the priest, uh, you know, there were a lot of Roman Catholics and Greek Catholics there in northeastern Pennsylvania.

The priest would give what was called the last rites of absolution, and they would go and do a memorial service, and that would be it. In the case of this- Holy mother of God. Yeah. That is so awful. I know. I know.
